We’ve had to hold our breath for quite a while but Hiccups is finally a winner thanks to a lovely ride by Eireann Cagney in the amateurs' race at Catterick on Tuesday.
We’ve known Hiccups ever since he was a foal as he was bred by our friend Eric Chen and foaled for him by Jenny Norris. He’s had a few near misses over the years but John had always kept the faith that he would wind up in the winner’s enclosure eventually, and he was proved right with his last-gasp success over 1m6f.
Hiccups has kept up a great run of form for the stable and was John’s seventh winner from his last 26 runners since the end of June. Long may the good days roll, and here’s hoping now that Hiccups has found his way, he’ll be back in the winner’s enclosure before too long.
Merrijig will be our next runner at Chester on Friday and we are very keen to add to his record of four wins to date.
