A spin on the Newbury turf for Roy Rocket

Writer: Emma BerryEmma Berry

If the 'Beast From The East' allows, Roy Rocket will be heading to Newbury this weekend to take part in a charity race with Frankie Amatt, who is Head Girl to Richard Hughes. Frankie is a very experienced rider who rode as an apprentice and as an amateur, and on Saturday she will be lining up alongside Sheikh Fahad Al Thani, among others.

This should be a good outing for Roy, who is likely to run next at Kempton as we count down the days to the return of the Flat season and the opening of the gates at Brighton. He's in great form and is seen here galloping on the Al Bahathri with Das Kapital, a three-year-old son of Cityscape who is heading towards a racecourse debut for his owners in The Geezers syndicate.

This week's forecast snow and extemely cold temperatures could be testing for everyone, but we're fortunate to be able to rely on the Heath Team at Jockey Club Estates, who grit the crossings and horsewalks to allow safe access for horses getting to the training grounds, and usually have at least a couple of all-weather canters harrowed and ready for use however bad the weather.
