It's not only Roy Rocket who has been flying the flag for the stable this year. The highlight of this last week has been the debut victory for Lawrence Wadey's The Rocket Park, who was the very game winner of the Southwell bumper on Wednesday under our old friend William Kennedy.
'Rocky' is a smashing horse, though it's fair to say that he's been slow to come to hand, with the odd little niggle along the way, mostly through immaturity. There are plenty of owners who wouldn't have waited this long to see a horse bought as a yearling make his debut but Lawrence stuck with Rocky as he grew and strengthened and was duly rewarded for his patience with a very pleasing win in the first outing for his new set of racing colours.
Rocky appears to have taken the race well, and anyone who saw him bound around Southwell with his ears pricked all the way could see that he was enjoying his first outing to the races. God willing he will be back in another bumper before too long.
