It was fantastic to get another win on the board for Beryl Burton, who clearly has a fondness for Wales having won at Ffos Las last year and at Chepstow on Thursday. Both times she has been ridden by Faye McManoman, who gets on particularly well with her.
Now four, Beryl has been very consistent since joining the yard last summer, with five placed finishes alongside her two victories, including when beaten a neck in a tight finish on her previous start at Yarmouth. This win was the first in the name and colours of her new syndicate, Beryl's Bunch, which contains a lovely group of enthusiastic owners from all over Britain, and even one as far afield as America. Congratulations to them and to her breeders at The Glanvilles Stud in Dorset.
Her win at Chepstow completed a successful week for the stable, with two winners from three runners following Hidden Pearl's triumph at Bath on Saturday.
We had been planning for Merrijig to make his debut in the Stratford bumper on Sunday but with extreme heat forecast we have decided to wait a little for a break in the weather. That can't some soon enough as we are also hoping to get Dereham back out again before too long to try to add to his wins at Pontefract and Newmarket but the ground is just a little bit too lively for him at the moment.
